This was more or less a test to see the way light reacted to the material from different distances and colors.

Not a new technique for me by any stretch, but some days you don't want to reinvent the wheel.

So I've been needing to learn how to model for a while now and there are several modules of Cinema 4D I've yet to adequately learn. One of those big ones is the Loft Nurb. In a stroke of serendipity Nick over at greyscalegorilla recently made an excellent tutorial overviewing this project using loft nurbs and intermediate modeling. Anyhow I basically followed the tut through word for word to make sure I didn't mess up too much. I'm quite happy with the result and I'm excited to see what else can be made this way. I've been working on using subsurface scattering and reflections to make things look like expensive little toys. The depth of field didn't work on this one unfortunately.
This one was the first try at this idea that I did not save and subsequently lost because I am dumb. I was thinking of using dark wood and ceramic textures to make them look like weird expensive toys. We'll see where it goes.

I've been reading a lot of Arthur C. Clarke lately and thinking about space dwellings. The idea of hollowing out an asteroid and people living inside it is something I can't stop thinking about.

Just a quick type sketch while at work. Might turn into a bigger piece down the line.
