Drawings 10/13
So it's been a little while. I've been working a lot. I haven't been putting things on the internet as much because honestly they weren't good enough, even for me. I wasn't making the time to finish anything and I wasn't really dedicating myself to the work, and it showed. This month though, I bore down and really tried to put some time in to get better. I think things are working. I decided not that long ago that I want to become a professional illustrator, it's something I put off as not being lucrative, or too niche, or some other reason and never pursued it. The thing is though, that I don't want to be doing anything else right now. I'm not saying I don't want to be a designer, but a hybrid of a designer and illustrator and motion artist. I want to be what I want to be. No one is going to blaze this trail except me, so here I am, doing it. These are kind of potato quality, you can see full-res ones here
Viscous Gif
I've been teaching myself RealFlow and did some viscous tests. This took about a day to simulate and a day to render out. I thought it'd be funny to make all that work into a crappy gif, so here's to that!
About this space
Not everything here is 'portfolio quality'. It isn't intended to be. Art, to me, is much like Yoga: everything is a practice. I practice art everyday, and sometimes I post it here.
Not everything here is 'portfolio quality'. It isn't intended to be. Art, to me, is much like Yoga: everything is a practice. I practice art everyday, and sometimes I post it here. Some things turn out looking alright, while some are complete garbage. I think it's important for you, the viewer, to see that I'm always working to get better. Most artists would like to have you believe that they only make good work from what they put online, which is untrue. I have finished work, and I have this, a practice.
THE BIG UPDATE (THINGS #70-94)
Hello everyone,
At the beginning of the year I made a goal to make something everyday this year. Things were going reasonably well until a really great freelance job came along. Now, I work full-time besides, but I figured it wouldn't be too much time every week. Like many designers before me I became completely overwhelmed. The job finished and now here I am.
Just because I didn't post things to the internet, didn't mean I stopped making things. In fact the opposite happened and I've been making things more than ever. So keep coming back, there is A LOT of fresh work going up here and in future posts.
Stay tuned
Matt
Thing #68/365
I ended up modeling and modeling and this is what came out. Lots of cloners, some loft nurbs and my poor computer trying to handle everything. I like it, although I think it will look better textured.
Thing #67/365
Early test of an idea using wires all bundled together. Maybe an engine? Or a cannon?
